Hello,
Today I would like to share a picture of my first quilt. This was a project my neighbor and I started together in the early 1970's.
She found a picture in the Kansas City Star of a quilt that was made like this, and I of course thought we should have one too, never realizing that used jeans were precious garments to anyone who wore jeans. I nearly have to cut my son's favorite thread bear jeans off him to get a patch or two for the quilt. Forty years later, he will say, "You cut up my best pair of jeans!”, when he looks at the quilt. I finally started going to the Salvation Army and Goodwill stores and buying the largest jeans I could find to have enough patches to finish the quilt.
The original quilt has all patched decorated. .After about four years of working on the decorating of the blocks, I decided that all blocks didn't need to have anything on them, so every other one has either a machine appliqué of embroidery on it. On the embroidery block I tried to fill in all the outline with filler stitched, and beads. I used all bead to create the yellow pear on the very light patch that came from my son's favorite jeans.
There is one more very personal block in the quilt and that is the orange car. That represent our 1970 Karmann Ghia convertible that we drove at the time I was making the quilt.
This quilt in never used, it is stored in a cedar chest waiting for my son to take it as his own.
Thanks for looking.
Barb
Well, that doesn't look so good. I didn't realize the picture would show up so small, will take another picture and post it later.

Hello Friends
Welcome to my blog. I'm new to blogging so it will take me a while to get the site organized and get on a schedule of posting often.
I'm excited to have a place to share photos of the quilts I have made the past 30 years along with images of the things I am presently working on.
My sister and I sew together once in a while. This is what we have been making this weekend.
